Telesthesia,
The New Way to Share Your Thoughts

Telesthesia – Mental suggestion, intentional telepathy

Telesthesia® is the result of a speculative design process on the future of communication.
Based on scientific articles and forward-looking writings on thought-controlled devices, we postulated that new technologies would enable us in a near future to communicate through thought.
Telesthesia® allows anyone to send and receive messages through thought. No need to write anything anymore, just think. One could also add textures and odours to their messages thanks to an haptic bracelet that stimulates brain to fake tactile and smell senses.

In addition to these devices, users could also access an online platform called Thilink in order to keep track of the various conversations they would have. Different settings would be available such as controlling the sensitivity of the thought captation or enabling/disabling pre-validation systems.

In order to assume that this situation could be real, we imagined and designed a serie of devices/artifacts that could be part of our future everyday life:

– Thought-controlled head device
– Haptic bracelet
– Thilink Application & Thilinkers community
– Billboard campaign
– Promotional Clip
– Newspaper
– Television report

Through the use of sales arguments, attracting websites, devices and commercials, we imagined a communication set to catch our target’s attention.

Aside from all the benefits such an invention could bring, the idea was also to raise questions around ethical and social issues which would flow from this. Thus we reflected upon that and materialized some of the potential downsides, such as a political and commercial exploitation of the data. Also we imagined that people could create secret groups where they would be free to ‘talk’ and escape the overwhelming ‘think-ers’ realm.
